More Peripherals

Remember this post from a while ago? Several new peripherals have turned up, but what are they? This time, the manufacturer names vanished together with the model numbers, but it shouldn’t be too hard.

Five unknown peripherals

Do you know these peripherals?

PS: Apologies for the poor photo quality.

  1. GotNoTime says:

First is a Korg NX5R as it has the XG board so says XG on the front.

Middle one is a Yamaha MU80.

Last is a Korg NS5R because it doesn’t have the XG logo.

I actually recognise these 3 modules as I’ve used them before but you could easily find it by the XG logo which meant Yamaha except for those two Korg modules.

  2. Michal Necasek says:

Yep, that’s right. Now we just need to identify the other two 🙂 The NS5R and NX5R are practically identical, the NX5R just comes with the XG expansion built in. If they were the same color they’d be practically indistinguishable.

  3. Fernando says:

Second: Yamaha TG100 General MIDI Sound Module
Third: Could also be a MU90, I’m not sure.

  4. GotNoTime says:

Ah. Found it! The fourth one is a Korg 05R/W.

  5. Michal Necasek says:

The 2nd is indeed a TG100, and early Yamaha General MIDI unit. But the fourth is not a 05R/W, although that’s really close!

  6. Oh you took the vendor labels off… photoshop? I recognize the YAMAHA, although I have the MU80, yours looks… like it’s missing the EQ button. Not sure about the rest, although I thought it was crazy having two, but here you are with FIVE! …. Do you daisy chain them to all play the same thing at once, or have 5 midi controllers?

  7. Michal Necasek says:

The MU80 and MU50 look almost identical. The MU80 is older but has better specs.

I don’t daisy chain them, just one at a time as the mood strikes me. Though I do wonder what 3-4 of them daisy chained would sound like.

  8. Daniel says:

    Great collection!!
The missing one is a Korg XD5R the succesoor of the 05R/W.

  9. Michal Necasek says:

That’s exactly right! It looks like the only difference is that the 05R/W has no headphone jack and the power button is in a slightly different position.

  10. Me says:

Gah! I am reaching into my screen and trying to pick the shipping protector off of that fourth one’s display lens. I abhor those things.

  11. Michal Necasek says:

I can’t explain why the previous owner never took it off. I am going to.
